Player Comparison #1: Quinn vs. Bowers

"Hey My Name is Daquan Bowers and I'm Overrated?

This is the start of a player comparison series where I will be justifying my big board picks. The first in the series is between Robert Quinn and Daquan Bowers. On my big board I have Quinn at 1 and Bowers at 15. This is in stark contrast to McShay who has Quinn at 7 and Bowers at 4. Below I created side-by-side comparisons of Quinn and Bowers based on their productivity, team success, and physical measurables.

Out of the 12 statistical categories Quinn leads Bowers 10-1 with one category being a push. These stats have included a projected 2010 season for Quinn based on his improvements between 2008 and 2009. One alarming statistic is that Bowers has only 1 forced fumble in his career.

In regards to wins/losses, Quinn’s UNC team won 7% more of their games then Bowers Clemson squad. Considering that Clemson had significantly better offenses (CJ Spiller, Jacoby Ford) than UNC while playing essential playing the same schedule makes this state pretty illuminating.

In regards to measurables, Bowers is a shade more impressive winning 5-3. Although Bowers might be better in this comparison it is important to note that 4 of the 5 categories he wins in are by a tiny amount while 2 of the 3 measurables Quinn leads in are by significant margins. Maybe the most alarming aspect of the measurable comparison is that Quinn ran the 6th fastest forty amongst D-lineman while Bowers ran the third slowest. What makes this even worse is that Bowers only was timed at his pro-day (favorable) where Quinn actually ran at the combine.

Overall, Quinn bests Bowers 16-4 with one category being a push. Thanks for coming out McShay.
